Fed: More men enamoured by Hanson than women: study

A parliamentary research paper has found that men may be the secret to One Nation leader
PAULINE HANSON'S success.

The paper, by Dr JENNIFER CURTIN on voting patterns along gender lines, suggests Ms
HANSON'S appearance and dress sense may be dragging in the votes as much as her policies.

Based on mail-out surveys conducted after each federal election, the paper found women
had consistently favoured coalition parties since 1990.

Dr CURTIN says men had supported the Labor Party in greater numbers than women.

But the advent of PAULINE HANSON'S One Nation had changed voting patterns, with men
eager to give their vote to the red-headed party leader.

The paper says One Nation received more support from men than women in both the House
of Representatives and the Senate.

Among rural and regional voters, there was a five per cent difference between male
One Nation voters and women (11 per cent versus six per cent) for the House of Representatives.

The margin closed to two per cent (11 per cent to nine per cent) in the Senate among
rural and regional voters.

Almost all the support came from coalition supporters, with Australian Democrats support
remaining constant among men and women.
