Vic: Bracks did not know of any Kennett/Gobbo deal
Victorian Premier STEVE BRACKS says he's unaware of any deal by the former Kennett
government that would have extended the term of office of state Governor Sir JAMES GOBBO.
Mr BRACKS is to hold a media conference later this morning where he's expected to announce
the appointment of a new governor to replace Sir JAMES on December 31.
Although Mr BRACKS has declined to confirm the move, he says no governor can stay forever.
The Herald Sun newspaper reports Sir JAMES, who has served as governor for three years
and nine months, had an understanding with former premier JEFF KENNETT that his term of
office would be extended by 15 months.
However Mr BRACKS says he was told of no deal.
